Mackie's of Scotland

Mackie’s of Scotland make Luxury dairy Ice cream on the family farm in Aberdeenshire.

The Mackie family has been farming at Westertown farm in Aberdeenshire since the turn of the century. Their farming and food business is the outcome of four generations of Mackies and their staff. Today’s business is owned by Maitland and Halldis Mackie and their family Karin, Mac and Kirstin, who each have Senior Management positions in the business.

In 1986 the kernel of their main business was formed with pilot trials for ice cream in the corner of their milk packing dairy. In 1993 the traditional byre and old mill were converted to a modern ice cream dairy, in 1996 a New Product Development Kitchen was built. The ice cream dairy has a capacity of over 15 million litres of ice cream a year.

Mackie’s are a vertically integrated company with a ‘design chain’ from ‘sky to scoop’, using the wind to generate renewable energy, for the 1500 acre farm which grows crops for nutrition of their herd of over 800 Friesan and Jersey cows, who produce fresh milk and cream for the state of the art ice cream dairy to make Mackie’s bestselling luxury ice cream.

Mackie’s Ice cream is currently the main focus of their business – which employs over 70 people with a turnover of 10 million litres of ice cream. Mackie’s ice cream is well established as a brand leader in the luxury ice cream market in Scotland, but over half of total sales are in England and export is increasing. Mackie’s export ventures include South Korea and India.

Mackie’s vision is to be a global brand from the greenest company in Britain created by people having fun.
